Christmas Carol Service Year 5 and 6

What a lovely evening, with mince pies and mulled wine!

The Year 5 and 6 children read some beautiful poems and readings, sang carols, the guitar group played and the Year 5 children blew their own trumpets!

Thanks for coming and well done to all those involved.85cb7ff3-a64a-46e2-8058-e70ea96a9a3a

Harvest at Charlton Lodge

13 representatives from the choir in Year 4-6 went to entertain the residents at Charlton Lodge on Friday 17th October. We sang our Harvest songs and a few of our old favourites that some of the residents joined in with! We were then able to have a chat with them and even met a 101 year old lady, she was amazing! Cakes and a drink were then served before we went back to school. It was a rewarding experience and the choir were complimented on their singing. image

Blowing their own trumpets!

On Friday 14th March, we were lucky enough to be taken to the High School to join with other schools in a brass band workshop.  As we arrived with Mrs Buckley, we heard the sound straight away!  We saw a lot of people that we knew so we quietly snuck in and Mr Fitton showed us to our places in the big hall.  We played a couple of pieces then had a break.  Then we got told that we had to go to a different room where we practised the pieces.  Then we went for lunch and then it was the big concert where our mums were there to hear us.  We played ‘Clair de Lune’, ‘Twinkle twinkle’ and ‘Now the day is over’.brass band workshop 2 brass band workshop.

We smashed it!  We enjoyed our day playing with everyone else in the band.

Concert for Philippines

On Monday 18th November, the choir performed in a concert for the Disaster Emergency Committee to raise funds for the recent devastation after the typhoon in the Philippines.  We joined with other schools in the town and sang two of our favourite songs, ‘Heal the World’ and ‘Together We Are One’, which everyone enjoyed.  The whole evening raised over £2000.  Well done to all the choir that managed to be there at such short notice, and also to your parents for getting you there!

Two Rivers Festival

The choir were involved with other primary schools in the town for the Two Rivers festival at Tiverton High School this week.

They performed an anthem ‘We are the voice of the people’ written especially for the occasion.  A samba band then led a procession through the school ending in a performance on stage where each school performed a song, then collectively sang 3 songs. This was to officially launch the cooperative learning partnership in the town.

Check out the video on (Tiverton schools unite to launch Cooperative at Two Rivers Festival)

Thanks to the children for representing the school, also to the parents for their support on the evening.

Devon Mix

On June 26th, some children from Years 3 to 6 were lucky enough to travel to Westpoint, Exeter for a music festival.

They took part in Samba and  dance workshops.  They also watched a fantastic acapella band called ‘The Magnets’ (google them if you get chance!) then learned how to beatbox.  They performed in a Big Sing with hundreds of children from other schools singing ‘Place your hands’ by Reef, ‘We are the Champions’ by Queen and ‘Love is easy’ by McFly.  The next treat (or not) was to listen to Mrs Saunders perform with the Devon Teachers Rock Choir!

The sun shone all day and a good time was had by all.

Independent Traders Day

Some of the choir walked to town on July 4th to sing with Heathcoat Primary school.  This was to celebrate and promote

the independent traders of the town.  We sang some songs together and then performed ‘The Show’  by Lenka on our own.  It

was lovely to see some of our parents there to support us.
